Tutorials

The tutorials in this section are text-based lessons with images, videos, and simulations integrated where appropriate.  Using the Information Processing Theory of Learning (Miller), I break the information into logical "bite-size chunks." To  make sure learners are "digesting" the information, self-check questions are posed after a chunk of information has been presented. Feedback for each question will either reinforce a correct answer or direct the learner to additional information about the topic. Although most tutorials are embedded in learning management systems, I will explain, with screenshots, some of the tutorials I have developed.

Learning Styles Inventory
This text tutorial and the associated spreadsheets were created as a supplement to an orientation session on learning styles and analyzing student data. Along with creating the training tutorials, I also developed the spreadsheets from the vendor's .csv file.

How to Create an Animation
Requested by a very creative art teacher, this text tutorial was used by the teacher and her students in order to create authentic animations.

Leadership Styles
Using a web resource for this scenario-based tutorial (http://www.inc.com/magazine/201310/adam-bluestein/what-kind-of-leader-are-you.html)), I created this for a professional development session to demonstrate to instructors how scenarios can be used as learning activities. This tutorial generated a great deal of enthusiastic discussion for branching scenarios.

How to Evaluate Resources
Using a paper tutorial created by a subject matter expert, I broke the content down into sections to create a linear lesson. At the end of each section are "self-check" questions that either reinforce correct answers or provide additional information for incorrect responses. Navigation buttons allow students to maneuver back and forth through the material as needed.

Constructing an Effective Search Query
The content for this tutorial was provided by a subject matter expert. Using a tutorial in paragraph format, I broke the content into sections. At the end of each section "self-check" questions were created. Navigation buttons allow student to maneuver back and forth through the material as needed.
